Watch Out! I'm in an organizing mood.

I was never awesome at organizing however once I had kids I really became terrible at it.  As I type up this post I literally have piles and piles of "stuff" all throughout the house that in my crazy mind ARE organized. I know just what needs to be done with these piles. Devoting the time and energy to go through them is my issue. I think visually seeing them day in and day out has just gotten the best of me and being so overwhelmed I don't even know where to begin.

For the past few weeks I have been trying hard to focus on improving just one thing each day.  It's slow going but the small accomplishments are making me feel better.

This brings me to wanting to share how happy I am with my cupboard organization.  I came across a few ideas on Pinterest and decided to use some of that inspiration to clean up my cupboard clutter.

Earlier this month there was some discussion in my Facebook group regarding deals on dry food containers to organize your cupboards with.  One member mentioned Ikea (thank you Angela!), so I looked around on their website and found these dry food containers that I couldn't be happier with! They are also very reasonably priced (the killer was shipping!).

When I first opened the package, I was so excited and couldn't wait to get these washed and filled up!  I purchased 9 of the 44 oz. size and 9 of the 10 oz. size.  Total with tax and shipping came to $62.39 and for 18 containers I didn't think that was a bad price.

I am very impressed with the quality of these containers.  They are BPA free and have a nice lid that opens for pouring.  I especially love that they are so clear, which makes it easy for me to know exactly what I have in the cupboard!  Here are my before and after pics.  If interested in purchasing these containers from Ikea, click here.

Another idea I came across on Pinterest and implemented in my own cupboards are self-made drawers using Sterlite totes.  I still have dreams of some day having a kitchen with roll out drawers in the cupboards (oh the thought!) but for now these will do.  First picture is before (as if you couldn't tell).  Now I can pull out the totes and see exactly what I have in the cupboard, especially on that bottom shelf!

I then moved on to organizing my catch-all drawer full of baggies, foil, etc.

I purchased two plastic baskets and screwed them into the doors that open up to the storage area under my sink.  You can currently find these baskets in the Dollar Spot at Target.

Finally I used a cheap tension rod and hung 2 of these baskets, which can also be found in the Dollar Spot at Target.  I placed the tension rod with baskets in the storage area under the sink.

I also hung my spray bottles from the tension rod, lifting them off the floor and allowing more space to store other things like garbage bags and my Dobies (love these!).  In the baskets I put dishwasher gelpacks and magic erasers.  Note this cabinet is always kept locked, even though my kids know not to touch cleaning products.

Now to move on to organizing the other 99 piles.

Just How Do I Organize My Sunday Coupon Inserts?!

Here I will break down my way of organizing newspaper inserts for those interested in knowing the method to my coupon madness. Note these coupon inserts were from 1/4/15 and I purchased 8 papers that week.  I don't usually buy that many papers unless there are a bunch of coupons I could use.  On any given week my family and friends save their coupon inserts for me so I usually have about 4 to 8 insert packets that need to be organized like this.

First I remove the coupon inserts from each newspaper and stack all the same ones in a pile.  This week there were 4 coupon inserts and the Parade magazine, which had a coupon or two in it.

Then I choose 1 packet to start with and remove the front page from each.  I open each front page and layer them on top of one another.  So in this example I had 8 covers open & stacked from the 1/4 SmartSource.  Then I take the next page from all 8 packets and group those together.  I continue on until I have grouped all like coupons in the packet.  I do this for each of the other insert packets I have as well.

Then I take the grouped insert packets and write the date on the front with a black sharpie.

Next I go through each insert and clip only the coupons that I know have a good chance of being redeemed.  It is nice to have all 8 (or however many inserts I have) of the like coupons together to clip them at once.  Then I spread the clipped coupons all over my table depending on how I will organize them.  So for instance if I clipped 8 of the $2.15 off 1 Finish Dishwasher Tabs coupons I would put them in the same pile as the clipped $1.00 off 2 Angel Soft Bath Tissue coupons because all of these will eventually be filed in my "Household" envelope.

I then go through all the clipped and organized coupons and put them inside my envelopes by category.

The rest of the inserts will remain "whole" and I will file those away just in case I need to clip any coupons for a good deal that comes along.  The other "most likely to be used" coupons are now filed away in my two purse organizers (one I use for food and the other is for non-food).  If interested in checking out more on the purse organizers I use, click here to read more.

Finally, about once a month I post on the expired whole inserts we can recycle or donate to the families of troops.  Then I go through my own whole inserts and do just that.

I hope this has been helpful and gives you more of a visual on how I organize my newspaper inserts.  How do you keep yours organized?  Do you bother to keep the rest of the inserts "just in case" or do you immediately recycle them?
