Pokemon Go is an app for Android & Apple Smartphone users that has taken the world over by storm! Yes, I am playing (and addicted!).

The game is pretty easy to play.  After you download from the app store be sure your location feature is turned on as GPS tracking is required for the game.  As you walk around and explore, your phone will show you where Pokestops (shown as a blue structure) and Gyms (shown as a taller tower in a specific team color of red, blue or yellow) are available in your surrounding area. When you are close enough to a Pokestop, click the icon and then spin the image.  You will be given goodies like Poke Balls, Potions, Raspberries, Eggs, and more!

Once a Pokemon character is nearby, your phone will vibrate giving you the heads up that you can catch a creature.  Throw one of your Poke Balls to capture the Pokemon (it might take a couple of tries).  Build up your collection of Pokemon and when you reach Level 5, you can join a team (red, blue or yellow) and engage in battles at your local Pokemon Gyms.  You can also add any of your Pokemon characters to a "friendly" gym (of your team color) as long as there is a free spot.  The number of spots depends on the level of the gym (level 4 = 4 spots).  Once you have Pokemon in a gym, you will gain XP (experience points) and PokeCoins as long as your character stays strong defending that gym.  If another color comes along and battles all of the Pokemon in the gym successfully the new color will take over and your Pokemon will be returned to you.  It is exciting to get your character & Pokemon in one of the gyms, although I have found it tough finding one with free spots open.

This app is not only fun, but it has led to thousands of people getting out seeing the town, walking, exploring and enjoying new places.  And I am all about finding fun things to do in the area!!

So here are some of the great spots around the Buffalo area for Pokestops, gyms, and Pokemon captures.  I will be adding to this list as I find out about new ones, so please check back often!

Important warning:  Stay alert and always be aware of your surroundings.  Never drive while playing the game as it is very dangerous (plus it is better to get some exercise in walking around!). Also consider traveling with a friend, especially at night.
