Did you ever receive this postcard and collection bag in your mailbox?  We received them for years and I just tossed them away thinking it was "just another donation request".  Well I have actually come to love this this piece of mail and look forward to it!  For the past week I've been cleaning my house of the many unwanted toys, clothes, shoes, curtains, housewares, games, jewelry, books, magazines, and more that has cluttered my home all winter long.  It's time to get rid of the things my family no longer needs and coincidentally the Vietnam Veterans of America needs this sort of stuff!!

How does it work?  The process is quite simple.  Head over here, enter your zip code and click the "Get Started" button.  Check to see if there are any pick-up dates scheduled in your area.  You can also call 1-800-459-VETS (8387) to inquire about pick-up.  If there is a convenient pick-up date, fill out the form to get your address on their scheduled truck stop.  Then go around your home and bag or box up any unwanted items.  They especially need clothing of all kinds, but also graciously accept accessories, shoes, housewares, baby items, glassware, curtains, jewelry, toys, and so much more!  You can view their entire acceptable items list by clicking here.  Please note that they will not accept cash donations.

Then on the day of scheduled pick-up, put your items out on your porch (or designated area) by 8:00 a.m.  Be sure to attach either your post card or signs identifying that these packages are for donation to the VVA.  You do not need to be home when they come to pick up the items.  The driver will leave your tax-deductible receipt before they leave (when I did this earlier in the year they taped mine to the door).

That's it!  Now what do they do with all of your "stuff"?  Well they sell your donations to private companies by annual bid and the funds they raise help support over 50% of their needs to support Local, State, and National service programs (i.e. homeless veterans, agent orange related health problems, improved hospital care for disabled veterans, etc.).

It really is an easy way to clean your house of unwanted items and give back at the same time!  Plus your donation is tax-deductible!
