A staycation can be a great way to save money. However, it doesn’t have to be boring. Whether you go camping at a local park or play tourist in your own town, you can enjoy a vacation that doesn’t require any major travel.

1. Camping

Most areas have a nearby campground or park. Camping is an expensive way to enjoy a vacation that doesn’t require leaving your immediate area. If you’re on a really tight budget, you can also camp in your own backyard. This is something that little kids will get a real kick out of. If you go camping in a park or campground, be sure to pack everything you need and get a fishing license if you plan to catch your dinner.

2. Movie Marathons

Another great idea is to host movie marathons throughout the week. Each family member can choose their theme on their day. For example, one kid might choose ninja movies. To make things even better, have snacks and make a themed meal that revolves around that day’s theme. You could have Asian food if you’re watching ninja movies or manly food if you’re watching action movies.

3. Playing Tourist

Have you ever just went and enjoyed your own hometown or a nearby town from the viewpoint of a tourist? This can be a fun way to enjoy a staycation. Whether it’s going to a museum or a local amusement park, you can enjoy all the things a tourist would but have the benefit of not having to pay for a hotel room.

4. Stargazing

If you live in the city, you’ll want to get away from the city limits for this one. However, if you live in a rural area or small suburb, you’ll be fine at home. Stargazing is a great experience for people of all ages. It can also be a great learning experience for kids. You can enhance the experience by downloading apps that will tell you about the different stars you point your phone at.

5. Pool Party or Cookout

Last but not least, make the most of what you have. If you have a pool, throw a pool party. If you have a grill, enjoy a cookout. You can invite your friends and family and spend the day doing something you love from the comfort of your own home.

A staycation isn’t as dull and lifeless as it sounds. You can really enjoy your time off without spending all the money on travel and hotel rooms. Whether it’s camping or throwing a pool party, you can enjoy a staycation with your family, and most important of all, create fun memories together without having to travel far!
