There are TONS of money-saving spring cleaning hacks to take advantage of. Here are a few to get you started.
Deep Clean Your Shower Head
Looking for an easy way to clean your showerhead both inside and out? Fill a Ziploc bag with vinegar, then attach it over the spout with the zip tie or rubber band. Please make sure you attach it so the showerhead is totally covered with vinegar. Leave the bag on overnight. When you remove the bag, your shower head will be as clean as new.
Keep Your Garbage Can from Smelling Bad
If you have a hard time finding the source of a bad odor in the kitchen, it might be coming from your garbage can. Before you put in a new bag, sprinkle a bit of baking soda into the can, then line the bottom with newspaper. The paper does a great job of soaking up any moisture that may leak out of the bag.
Get Rid of Hard Water Stains
There are a number of cleaning products available that promise to take care of hard water stains both in the bathroom and kitchen. Instead of reaching for one of these pricey solutions, pour a bit of apple cider vinegar onto a microfiber cloth and use that to eliminate hard water stains.
Make Your Own Cleaning Wipes
Disinfectant wipes are convenient for cleaning up messes, but the cost of keeping them on hand can quickly add up. Instead of buying them, make your own by soaking rags or paper towels in a mixture of water, vinegar, and dish soap. You can also add a few drops of essential oil to give your cleaning wipes a refreshing scent.
Get Twice as Much Out Of Your Sponges
Whenever you buy sponges, cut them in half and use them one half at a time. This way, it lasts twice as long. You can also disinfect your sponges by running them through the top rack in the dishwasher or zapping them in the microwave for 2 minutes on high. Use these tips, and you will end up with twice as much for the same price.
Clean Your Oven Racks
Line your bathtub with some old towels, so the oven racks don’t scratch up any surface. Lay your oven racks on top of the towels. Add some dish soap and 5 or 6 dryer sheets, then fill the tub with hot water until the racks are completely covered. Let the oven racks sit for about 8 hours or overnight. When you pull the racks out, they will still have the grime on them, but use the wet dryer sheets to wipe them down easily, and your racks will look brand new!
Clean Your Microwave
In a microwave-safe bowl, line with lemon slices. Then fill the bowl with water, just enough to cover your layer of lemons. Add 1/4 cup of white vinegar. Microwave the lemon slices on high for 5 minutes. When done, let the bowl sit for a few minutes, then carefully remove it. Use a damp cloth to wipe away any stuck-on food easily.
